Applicants for Hutton Honors Study Abroad programs are required to list a current or past professor or instructor as a reference that we may contact if we have additional questions related to your preparedness to study abroad. If you have been asked by an undergraduate student to serve as a reference on their behalf for their Hutton Honors Study Abroad application, you are not required to write a recommendation letter or submit a form. However, we may reach out via email, should we need additional information to make our final admissions decisions.
Serving as a reference for an applicant to a Hutton Honors Study Abroad program
Note: Any IU instructor may act as a reference for a student. However, you should currently or previously have had the applicant as a student in one of your courses.
If we need additional information, you may be asked to answer the following questions:
- How long and in what context have you known the applicant?
- Have you discussed the applicant's plans to study abroad?
- In your opinion, what is the single most compelling reason for the applicant to be admitted to a Hutton Honors Study Abroad program?
In addition, you will be asked to indicate your opinion of the student on a 1-5 scale regarding areas, such as dependability, maturity, and work ethic. You may add any comments you deem appropriate.
If you have any questions, please contact hiep@indiana.edu.
